The Chebeague Island Historical Society is an educational, non-profit organization, whose purpose is:
- to research and record the past and present history of Chebeague Island
- in order to enrich the lives of Chebeague residents and visitors
- and to develop and instill a sense of place.
To pursue these fundamental purposes, we work to:
- Discover, acquire and preserve material culture which will help to establish and illustrate the history of Chebeague Island.
- Research and record the history of individuals and families identified with Chebeague Island.
- Acquire and preserve relevant antiquities, artifacts and documents which represent the material culture of Chebeague.
- Provide for accessibility of the Society’s collections, as much as possible, to all who wish to examine or study them.
- Develop suitable programs and exhibitions of general interest to the Island residents and those visiting the Island.
- Cooperate with other historical organizations where such activity will contribute to our goals.
- Cultivate an awareness that today is living history and that current records should be checked for accuracy and preserved for the future.
- Initiate and preserve a collection of oral, video, and history.
